About This Record
What Was Written Down
Junod lists Mavundja among the Hlabi clans and records that Mavundja people left the Limpopo with the Nkuna during Manukosi's wars and founded colonies in the Transvaal. Malungana, citing the Gazankulu Year Book, says the Mavunda sub-group settled first in Swaziland and later in the Bolobedu area near Groot Spelonken, and were among those who did not assist Soshangane. Wikipedia dates the departure of Nkuna, Valoyi, Mavundza and Rikhotso to 1835. Mathevula's table of contents includes a Mavundza chapter (not read). Recorded from the sources named on this entry; the wording here is Sibaya's own.
