Who everyone is to each other.
Not a contact list and not a chart somebody maintains alone. A record the family builds together, where one person is one person however many relatives know them.
Nobody is written into your family without saying so.
One person proposes a relationship. The person it names confirms it from their own account, and until they do it is a request that shows nobody anything. The rule is enforced by the database rather than by good manners. The software cannot quietly connect two people who have not both agreed.
The one exception is a person you created yourself and still manage: you may state how two records you made relate to each other, because there is no one else to ask yet. The moment somebody claims one of them, the rule applies again.
Start with the people in front of you.
Then add the ones you have only ever heard about: a great-grandmother, an uncle who died before you were born. A relative does not need the app to be in your family's record.
-
Add the people
The ones with a phone and the ones without. A person who has never heard of Sibaya can still be in the record.
-
Propose how you are related
You say it. They confirm it. Until then it is a request and nothing more.
-
They claim their own record
When a relative signs in, the record made for them becomes theirs, not a second copy of the same person.
-
One person, one record
When two relatives have each added the same aunt, the two are merged into one rather than left as duplicates.
Your family's word, not the software's.
What you call somebody is what the family calls them. You enter it yourself, in your language, in the word your family uses. Nobody's software decides that "Father" is the correct form, and no term from one language is imposed on a record belonging to another.
