ChungwaDikizaSawuNkomo z' bomvu The History Behind This Name
As written down by the people named at the end.
The amaGqunukhwebe were created as a chiefdom under King Tshiwo, who reigned about 1670-1702, and are distinctive in the Xhosa nation for having incorporated Khoikhoi communities - the Gonaqua, Hoengeniqua and Inqua - displaced by colonial expansion.
Khwane kaLungane, a counsellor and warrior under Tshiwo, was chosen to lead the new chiefdom and founded the Khwane dynasty. After the frontier wars their territory west of the Fish River passed to European settlers, and the land between the Fish and the Keiskamma was allocated to the amaMfengu.
The chiefdom later divided under Pato and Kama, the latter's conversion to Christianity marking the split; the Cape Colony recognised Kama, and the two houses continue separately today.
