The History Behind This Name

As written down by the people named at the end.

The amaBomvana live between the Mthatha and Mbhashe rivers around Elliotdale, and are known as the red blanket people. Their own tradition takes them back to the amaNgwane of what is now KwaZulu-Natal, with Njilo as the progenitor of the amaBomvana.

The sources record that they left Natal about 1650 after a dispute over cattle and settled in Mpondoland, remaining there until they were pushed east of the Mbhashe with the permission of King Hintsa. The Tshezi rose to prominence when Hintsa took Nomsa of the Tshezi as his Great Wife.

The izithakazelo.blog directory records European shipwreck ancestry in the Tshezi line; the same is recorded of the Tshomane. That account is carried here as the sources give it and has not been checked against a documented wreck.
