The History Behind This Name
As written down by the people named at the end.
Dlomo is one of the four royal clan names of the abaThembu, beside Madiba, Hala and Bhomoyi. The abaThembu trace their descent through uMthembu kaNtongakazi, who led his people from what is now KwaZulu-Natal to Dedesi in the present Eastern Cape, and consolidated as a nation under Nxeko around the sixteenth century.
Thembuland kept its independence until British annexation and was later folded into the Transkei territories. The Dlomo praises are recited widely across Thembuland and, through the shared Sophitsho and Ngqolomsila lines, connect to the Ndungwane and Mngxongo iziduko.

If Your Family Holds More Of This
A family saying its own izinqulo knows them better than any directory does. If yours has more than what is on this page, it belongs here.
